In this work, two different evaluation methods are presented from laboratory sessions in the Fluid Machinery and Systemscourse of the Bachelor Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering: evaluation of technical reports (individual portfolio ofthe students) and final test (single objective assessment). The statistical analysis of the data during the last five academicyears for 684 students reveals that the portfolio evaluation is less correlated with the final grade of the subject, showingoverrated marks with narrow dispersions. On the contrary, the final test evaluation exhibits a higher correlation with thefinal grades, presenting a more representative distribution. The evaluation based in a final test is found to be moresignificant, unbiased, more coherent and able to reduce the subjectivity observed in previous years with the reports-based evaluation.
